Call to rescue baby bunnies from an exposed nest that was found in the yard by the family dog. Unfortunately, two were unable to be saved but one lucky baby was still secure in the nest. It’s easy to assume a nest has been abandoned because Mama rabbits are smart and visit their nests only when absolutely necessary to avoid drawing attention to it. Unless in immediate danger it is recommended to leave any baby bunnies inside the nest and keep it covered. In this instance, the family dog was well aware of the nest’s existence and for the safety of the remaining “kitten” (the term for a baby bunny) it was removed, and the nest was filled to deter the mother from returning or re-using the site. The kitten was delivered to the WRT for skilled rehabilitation and has since been released back into the wild.
